Interlibrary Loan

What is interlibrary loan? When you've searched our catalog and you don't find what you are looking for, let us try and get it for you from another library. Through our Interlibrary Loan Service (ILL), we can request materials from other libraries in the State of Connecticut as well as from out-of-state libraries.

Who can use this service? This service is available to Waterford residents and non-resident customers with valid library cards.

Does it cost anything? There is no fee for this service. The library will not request any item for which there is a fee from the lending library.

How long will it take to get the item I need? Please allow a minimum of ten (10) business days for items to arrive. We will contact you via telephone or e-mail when the item arrives.

What can I borrow? Mostly books. Please note, some materials are not available through ILL, such as entertainment DVDs, music CDs, and reference materials. It is also very difficult to obtain best sellers and other books published within the last 12 months.

How many items can I request through interlibrary loan? Customers may have up to 5 active ILL requests in our system at one time.

What is the loan period? The usual loan period for an ILL item is three weeks.

You may view the statewide library catalog and request interlibrary loan items on your own.

Any additional questions please call the library at 860-444-5805 ext. 2.

Wi-Fi Access
  wifi zone

Customers with wireless equipped devices, such as laptops, can now surf the Web throughout the library. All you need is a laptop or other wireless capable device that supports the Wi-Fi standard (also know as IEEE 802.11b).

* Most Wi-Fi equipment will be compatible. However, the library cannot guarantee the compatibility of your equipment with the library’s network.

Check the following settings to enable access:

* Right-click on Wireless Network Connection or Local Area Connection and click Properties

* Locate the Internet TCP/IP protocol and click Properties. If more than one TCP/IP protocol is listed look for the one associated with your wireless adapter

* Select ‘Obtain an IP address automatically,’ and ‘Obtain DNS server address automatically.’

* Select WPL from the available networks. No passwords, user names or encryption settings are required.

* Wireless users are reminded that their transmissions are not as secure as those on a wired network and should take precautions not to disclose sensitive data, such as credit card or bank account information.

* Printers are not available via the wireless connection.

* There is no staff available to assist with setting up wireless Internet on your computer device or to do any troubleshooting.

* The library assumes no responsibility for the configurations, security or files on your laptop or other device resulting from connection to the library’s wireless network. Wireless users assume all risks in this regard.

The Waterford Public Library considers use of its Wi-Fi connection to constitute acceptance of its policies, guidelines and regulations regarding Internet access (see Internet Policy).
